My dear Mrs. Beecher Hooker

Please accept the sincere congratulations of my wife & myself on your Golden Wedding, though I fear this will not reach you till after the celebration.

I do not think I shall leave England again, as I find that I can only keep in health by constant care & attention, & by regular habits which I can only attain to at home. Here, I can still do a little for the cause of freedom & [2] progress. During the last year I have been giving evidence before the Royal Commission on Vaccination, & have, I hope, helped to abolish the cruel and tyrannical ^laws which treat parents as criminals for refusing to submit their children to the danger of horrible diseases through vaccination. I also do what I can for social improvement by the advocacy of Land Nationalization [sic] and Socialism, — &[?] have just written an article on "Spiritualism", necessarily a short one, for the [3] new Edition of Chambers’ Encyclopedia.

I found you a copy of our Land-Nationalisation Paper containing my Presidential Address. Should you come again to England we shall be much pleased to see both yourself and Mr. Hooker.
