Will you allow me to reply in your next issue to such of Dr. Carpenter’s3 statements in his article "Psychological Curiosities of Spiritualism" as affect me personally? I should not occupy more than a few pages.

If you would read my review of Dr. C.’s book in the "Quarterly Journal of Science" for July last, you would see that Dr. Carpenter’s present article confirms all I have [2] said of him. He writes like an unscrupulous advocate tying [trying] to conceal the real issue, & not like a searcher after truth. I and those who believe as I do, are desirous of the freest criticism, but we ask that such criticism be honest and dictated by a love of truth and of truth only.
