Dear Sir

I have received from Colonel Henry S. Olcott²an MSS article replying to D^r. Carpenter’s³ attack upon him in Fraser⁴ of last November, with the request that I will do what I can to get it inserted in Fraser.

The article is short, (perhaps 7 pp. of Fraser), it is perfectly to the point, it is brilliantly written and will I think be read for its literary merits only, and it corrects some important errors and misrepresentations. Of course I can say no more than [2] than that I think D^r. C.’s attack on Col. Olcott was unjustifiable and that he can fairly claim the right of reply. You must judge whether you will grant him the privilege in your paper.

If you will do so I will send you the article & correct the proofs, & will also alter any expressions you may object to; but I do not think there are any, for the article, though very telling, is good-tempered.
