J’avais effectivement l’intention de traduire l’ouvrage de M[onsieu]^r Wallace sur la Geographie zoologique,² malheureusement des travaux, d’un autre genre m’ont empêché jusqu'ici d’accomplir ce projet, et pendant longtemps encore me prendront tout mon temps.

Je suis heureux, Monsieur, que vous ayez eu aussi l’idée d’entreprendre la traduction d’un ouvrage aussi important et dont la publication en langue francaisesera d’autant mieux accueillié que le dernier traité sur la matière a paru il y a déjà plus de vingt ans et en langue allemande.

I indeed had the intention to translate the work of Mr. Wallace on Zoological Geography², unfortunately work of another nature has prevented me from accomplishing this project so far, and it [will] take up all my time for a long while yet.

I am happy, Sir, that you have also had the idea to undertake the translation of a such an important work whose publication in the French language will be all the more welcome in that the last treatise on the subject appeared more than twenty years ago and in the German language.
