Parkstone, Dorset.

Feb[ruar]y. 1st. 1898

Dear Sir

My new book is not quite finished yet. It will be a volume of about 340 — 350 pp. of the same sized page & type as my "Darwinism". I hope to go to press with it before the end of this month.1

I do not know whether Messrs. Swan Sonnenschein & Co. propose to reprint it in America through their agents. If not I might make an arrangement with you; but perhaps you had better communicate with them on the subject.

Yours very truly | Alfred R. Wallace[signature]

It is probable that Wallace is referring to "The Wonderful Century; Its Successes and its Failures", first published by Swan Sonnenschein & Co., London, in June 1898. The American edition was published in September 1898.
