Dear Sir,

Lord Haldane has forwarded to the Prime Minister your letter of the 11^th instant.

In reply I am to say that the Prime Minister has already received represent — ations with regard to the sadly reduced circumstances in which Mrs. Wallace is placed. Though it is not possible for him to continue the pension which her

husband enjoyed, to the ⁱⁿ full, he is taking steps to provide for her as generously as possible.
