17th November, 1913.

Confidential.

Dear Sir,

The Prime Minister desires me to thank you for your letter of the 15th instant, and to say in reply that his attention has already been drawn to the sadly reduced circumstances in which Mrs. Wallace is placed. Although it is not possible to continue to her in full the pension which her husband enjoyed, he proposes to recommend her for a pension of £120 a year, to which he is adding a lump sum grant of £300 to enable her to meet her present heavy expenses.

May I ask you to remember that this information is confidential, and is given in order that you may be in a position to judge what further assistance in required.

Yours faithfully, [no signature]

Sir Archibald Geikie, K.C.E., F.R.S.
