THE ROYAL SOCIETY,
BURLINGTON HOUSE,
LONDON, W.1.
25th July 1935.
My dear Sir,
I am greatly obliged by your letter of July 24th, and I am quite sure that my fellow Officers would wish me, on their behalf as well as on my own, to accept, with real gratitude, your proffered gift of the revolving bookstand2, which was given to your distinguished father by his friend, Professor Meldola3. You may be assured that the Society4 will treasure such a momento [sic] of Alfred Russel Wallace; and, although I shall finish my own term as an Officer a few months hence, I can foresee that it will, for many years, hold an honoured place on the table at which the Society’s Officers hold their confidential meetings, and that it will help their work while keeping them in mind of your great father.
With warmest thanks, | Yours very sincerely, | H. H. Dale [signature]
