Dear Sir2,

I am very glad that you wrote to me with regard to the letter from the Pay Office, stating that the Civil List pension3 awarded to your mother4 was only £50. It was a gross [2] blunder on their part, for which I would offer my apologies.

I have instructed them to write making the necessary correction, & I trust that your mother has not been caused worry through the mistake.

The King5 has now signed the warrant & all the necessary steps have been taken for payment at the beginning of next month.

Yours faithfully | F W Leith-Ross7 [signature]

W. G Wallace Esq[uire]

Wallace, Annie (née Mitten) (1846-1914) was due to receive a pension from the Civil List as ARW’s widow.
