Dear Madam

I expect as you put Kg to my name that you thought you were writing to my uncle. The late Duke you speak of was my grandfather (George 8th D) whom I often heard talking of Professor Wallace most of whose books are still in the Inveraray Castle Library. I have not seen any of his letters to the 8th Duke but I will look in due course but I must tell you that my Grandfathers 3rd wife Ina McNeill could probably help you as regards letters as she was allowed to take boxes away with her on leaving Inveraray which are to be returned some day. If you apply to her you had better not mention and of us, as we have not been on speaking terms with her for 14 years for reasons well known to Scots people.

I remain | Yours truly | Argyll [signature]

My Aunt Lady Frances Balfour might be of help to you.
