I have just received the enclosed letter, by which you will see we are unable to hear from native sources of any recollections of your father’s visit to Sadong3.

I was afraid it would be too long ago.

This is a single page memorandum, numbered WP16/1/97 [1 of 3] in pencil in the top RH corner. The words "Ack[nowledge]d" April 15/[19]14" are written in pencil in the hand of the recipient at the top of the LH margin.
Wallace, William Greenell (1871-1951) Electrical engineer, second son and third child of ARW.

Batang Sadong is a river east of Sarawak on the island of Borneo. ARW’s expedition is chronicled in Notes of a Journey Up the Sadong River,

North-West Borneo Proceedings Royal Geographical Society 1856 pp.193-204.

Moulton, John Coney (1886-1926) British Army officer and amateur zoologist, Curator of the Sarawak Museum 1908-1915. He was interested in entomology, specialising in Cicadas, and also birds and mammals.
