Dear Sir
I venture to send you a copy of a book compiled from MSS left unpublished when my husband died. He would, I know, have sent you his book, had he lived to bring it out. [2] He greatly valued the privilege of knowing you & of visiting you in your Parkstone home. He wrote to you, also, I know, about some of the views brought forward in this book. They were founded upon his own research work in different lines, though some [3] of them are somewhat unusual & perhaps startling, he hoped that his fellow biologists would give them fair consideration &, more especially, that some of the younger generation might be led to test them in their own work.
You may not have heard that my husband [4] died two years ago, his over-active brain being actually worn out. It has been a great consolation to me to edit his work to the best of my ability.
Hoping that you may be interested in the book,
I am, dear Sir, | Y[ou]rs faithfully | M. Bernard [signature]
Dr A R Wallace.
