Dear Sir
With sincerest congratulations upon the attainment of your 88th birthday we venture to send you our little book "Home Life with Herbert Spencer". We wrote it with the intention —whilst not ignoring his idiosyncrasies — of showing up the warm-hearted side of his character [2] which could only he known to his intimate friends. As he so often spoke with admiration of your work and exceptional self abnegation we thought we should like you — particularly to know there was a sympathetic side to his nature.
With profound respect | We are truly yours | Rosa and Mabel Baker ("Two") [signature]
