To, Alfred Russell Wallace Esq
Dear Sir:
In connection with the remarks in your kind letter of the 8th instant that you "presume my husband, the late Professor H. Carvill Lewis1, wished his work to be sent you on account of the chapters on [2] geological climates and the cause of the glacial period in your book on Island Life" — I have pleasure in stating that the inference is correct and also that my husband, when leaving this world, desired me to send his unfinished papers so soon as they should be completed edited and published to yourself and several other distinguished men of Science whose [3] works were a constant source of delight and inspiration to him and to whom he felt that he owed a debt which although it might in this way be acknowledged could never be repaid.
I am, with profound respect, | Faithfully yours | Julia F. Lewis [signature]
