WOLVERTON,

GARISBROOKE ROAD,

NEWPORT, I OF W.

Sept 11. 1910

Dear Sir,

I am sending you a copy of a "Guide to the Natural History of the Isle of Wight", published last year, which I had the privilege of editing, hoping that it may be of some interest to you, especially as you have devoted so much time & though to [2] "Island Life", & have had such unique opportunities of studying the same on the spot; though I am quite aware that the Isle of Wight, being so recently detached from the mainland & being also so near, does not present the same interesting problems in regard to the distribution of species, &c. that many of the islands which you have visited did. However, it seemed very desirable that lists of species of animals & plants occurring in the Island [3] should be compiled, & a great effort has been made to do this, with, I confess, very unequal results — some groups being very fairly dealt with, whilst others are only just touched upon. This inequality, however, I hope to remedy by bringing out a second volume in a few years' time, in which it is hoped that the neglected groups will be more adequately treated. And I shall consider it a favour, Sir, if you, with your vast experience as a Naturalist, [4] will advise me as to any alteration in the plan or arrangement of the projected second volume which you may think advisable, so as to increase the usefulness of the work. If you would think well of this humble contribution to Natural History, perhaps you will say a kind word for the book when opportunity occurs, as I am anxious that it shall have a fair sale & distribution.

I am, Sir, | Yours very truly | Frank Morey [signature]
