Dear Sir,

Long ago I made up my mind that if ever I visited England I would endeavour to make your personal acquaintance. Your works, I have known from my boyhood days.

I am unfortunate enough to have an invalid wife, and am obliged to take her to Scotland on Monday next where she will remain [2] for a few months or until she gets better. I shall return to London in about three weeks, and then will try to see as much of England as possible. I should like to spend an hour with you, and if you could arrange a time convenient to yourself I would run up to Dorset and call upon you.

Believe me | Dear Sir | Sincerely yours | W. R. Guilfoyle1 [signature]
