I am in receipt of your letter of the 11th inst[ant]. enclosing a portrait of the late D[octo]r. Alfred Russel Wallace. I have given instructions for the greatest care to be taken of it, and for it to be returned to you as soon as the enlargement is made.

The letter is typewritten, and signed by the author in ink. The page is numbered WP16/1/136 [1 of 2] in pencil in the top RH corner.
Wallace, William Greenell (1871-1951) Electrical engineer, second son and third child of ARW.
The recipient’s residence was named Doveshill Cottage.
Sheldon, William George (1859-1943) Treasurer of the Entomological Society of London, founded in 1833 (now the Royal Entomological Society).
The envelope is numbered WP16/1/136 [2 of 2] in pencil in the top RH corner. It bears the postmark "LONDON APR 16 1145 AM 1924G". The words "Sheldon Auth[or]?" are written in pencil above the name and address of the recipient.
