— August 8th — 1844

My dear Fanny

I have just received yours — time to write a line or two to wish you a safe & pleasant voyage & [I] trust you will find your companion agreeable & situation pleasant[.] — I was very glad to hear my mother1 was settled as I did not know when to write to her[.] — I shall be glad to hear when you have time to write & get settled and also how you have settled with Mr Cole[.]2 — If I understand you, you have given up the show entirely to him — — [2] I had forgotten Alfred had written to me last but shall write to him[.] —

I have changed my Lodgings & am now in very comfortable quarters in Neath but business [is] very slack, I hope however the Railroad talked of to this quart[er] will go on when I expect to get employed[.] — I am thinking of advertising for a pupil[.] —

Let me hear from you every chance you have & believe me ever your affe[ctionate] Brother | W. G Wallace [signature]

PS. Get some Creosote (or Spirits of Tar) it will remove the Toothache & take a little medicine — I suppose you are so much of a sailor now that you will weather the voyage without much seasickness. —

You tell me nothing about Hertford & how Miss Andrews & Miss Hudson and all our old friends are. I shall expect a Budget of recollections by next post — you know I have nothing to write that will interest you as you know nobody here but the Hertford folks are old acquaintances of mine.4
