Dear Sir,
You will remember that you authorised us to give permission to Mess[ieu]rs. Alfred A. Knopf to use approximately 10,000 words from The Malay Archipelago3, by Alfred Russel Wallace, in an anthology of animal tales compiled by Ivan T. Sanderson4. We have not heard that this edition has yet been published, but Mess[ieu]rs. George G. Harrap5 have now written to tell us that they propose to issue the book within the British Empire, excepting Canada. They have, of course, to obtain separate authorisation for this purpose, and perhaps you will kindly let us know is you would like us to give permission on your behalf, and what fee you would suggest. You instructed us to ask $45 for the American rights.
We are, | Yours faithfully, | Macmillan & Co[mpany]. L[imi]t[e]d.6,7
