Dear Sir,
I am compiling a Colonial Anthology3 for publication later this year and in the Malay Section I should very much like to include extracts from Alfred Russel Wallace’s book "The Malay Archipelago"4. I have in mind 12 passages totalling 1,500 words. In addition, I should like to reproduce four of the illustrations.
Macmillan & Co[mpany]., the publishers, tell me that the copyright now rests with you and I am accordingly writing to seek your permission to use these extracts and illustrations. Full acknowledgement would, of course, be given (a short biographical note is also being included about each of the authors).
Yours faithfully, | S H Evans [signature]
