Dear Sir,

We find the blocks of the illustrations to THE MALAY ARCHIPELAGO3 no longer exist.

We think that it would be reasonable to ask Mr. S. H. Evans4 for a fee of two guineas for the extracts he wishes to use from the text of the work, and perhaps the same amount would be appropriate to cover the right of reproducing four of the illustrations, assuming that you wish to ask for any payment for these in the circumstances.

We are | Yours faithfully, | Macmillan & Co. Ltd5. [handwritten]
