31, St. Margaret’s,

Rottingdean,

Sussex.

8th October, 1949.

Dear Mr Wallace2,

Thank you for your letter of the 6th October. The anthology3 has suffered the usual interminable delays in publishing, but I am glad to say that a publication date is now firmly fixed — the 20th of this month. I have availed myself of your permission to quote certain extracts from A. R. Wallace’s "Malay Archipelago"4 [sic] on the terms you were good enough to offer, and you should be hearing from the publishers, William Hodge & Company5, and you should be hearing from very shortly.

Yours sincerely, | Harold Evans [signature]

S. H. Evans6

W. G. WALLACE ESQ[UIRE].
