Dear Sir,

We have received an application from Alfred A. Knopf, Inc.,2 of 501 Madison Avenue, New York 22, for permission to include 10,000 words from "The Malay Archipelago,"3 by Alfred Russel Wallace, in an anthology of wild animal stories, edited by Ivan T. Sanderson.4

As the book is out of print we have no rights to it, and perhaps you would kindly let us know what fee you would wish us to charge for permission, unless you prefer to deal with the matter yourself. We do not think that $45 would be unreasonable.

We are, | Yours faithfully, | for MACMILLAN & CO. LTD. | T.M. [signature]5
