Frith Hill, Godalming
July 16th. 1886
Dear Mr. Baker
About three years ago I received in exchange a few bulbs from a gentleman at Cherbourg (Mr. M. Renny) who said he had received them from Chile at 5000 ft. elevation. They have at length flowered & seem to be a species of Hymenocallis or Pancratium. I enclose a very crude sketch which gives the principal characters, & shall be glad to know if you recognise it, or think it may be undescribed. [2]
I also want to ask you who is the best authority now on the species of British Plants, or who is most likely to be able to give me a list of the species, sub-species or varieties of British Plants not known to occur on the Continent of Europe or elsewhere.
Believe me | Yours very faithfully | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
