Revd James Marchant
Dear Sir
I should like to write on the subject given and will do so, subject to such unavoidable obstacles as serious illness &c.
As I appear to have mislaid your letter stating length of article required, [remainder of page cut out, probably to obtain the signature] [2] will you please repeat these.
Of course it is understood that I retain the absolute right of republication or expansion at any later period, as the subject would require a volume for its adequate treatment, & I have for many years been thinking of a work on this subject [remainder of page cut out] [3]
P.S. I have since found your letter. I cannot promise to do such an article in less than 3 months from now, as I have not yet collected the necessary materials. Also the remuneration you offer is very low, and more than one-fourth what I have been getting for Review Articles.
