Dear Mr Marchant,
I have read your "Plea for Regeneration"1 and can see at once that you can write clearly, forcibly & imaginatively. The Press notices show the same.
I think Mr Murray makes his Authors pay for his name & reputation, in very small Royalties. Macmillan have [2] given me 20°or 25° per cent on almost all my books, & I have the same from Chapman & Hull.
I received the parcel of Books on Saturday — but only 20 instead of 24. Will you please ask them to send the others. I will give you an inscribed copy when you call.
Excuse brevity as I am very busy & tired.
Yours very truly | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
