Letter (WCP6642.7691)

[1]1

6, Lendal, York

19th February 1907

Dear Mr Slater,

Dr Wallace2 has had the Customs and Costumes of Quito to be inspected, and has returned them on the ground that the expense of reproducing even eight of them would be prohibitive. I understand that it would be some £40. I have also sent him the bundle of letters, and I enclose you herewith a copy of his last letter to me.

You will see he throws out a suggestion as to money being raised in the neighbourhood of Castle Howard,3 I presume he has in mind the Carlisle family. Personally I should not expect anything to come of that, but it seems right to let you know. If you think fit to take any steps in the direction indicated I shall of course be very glad, but it seems to me the amount involved is considerable for there were 44 drawings and half the number would be 22 and I gather that it costs about £5 to reproduce each, so that we get over £100.

I may at once say that the matter is not of sufficient interest to me to induce me to contribute more than a trifle to such an object. I hope you are very well, and with kind regards,

I remain, | Yours very faithfully, | J Teasdale [signature]

M. B. Slater Esqre.
