[1]

June 5, 1893.

Dear Sir,

Dr. Huggins1 offers for exhibition the drawing which accompanied his paper about to be read next Thursday. This paper, I believe, is more or less controversial, and I have not liked to accept his offer without referring the question to the Officers. Perhaps as Mr. Lockyer2 is exhibitiing, it will be fair to let Dr. Huggins too, but kindly let me know.

We sent the ordinary printed paper to Mr. Russel Wallace, but with the foot-note about payment scratched out. I do not think it much matters even if he comes on the 8th. I dare say some Fellow would pay his fee "pro temp.", and we could refund from the Scientific Relief Fund afterwards.

You will perhaps remember that Mr. Hulke3 was requested to write an obituary notice of Dr. Jago4, but declined to do so, at the same time mentioning certain notices in print. I do not know that you asked anybody to do this in his place, but Mr. Dunkin5 (who knew Dr. Jago personally) has sent in an unsolicited obituary, which I have shown to Mr. Hulke and which Mr. Hulke thinks quite suitable for publication. I enclose it herewith, and shall be glad to learn whether I am to put it into type.

Yours truly, | Herbert Rix [signature] | Asst Sec RS
