March 27, 1908.

Dear Sir,

I venture to write to you on behalf of the Committee concerned with the proposed Memorial Volume of Essays on the work of Charles Darwin. The enclosed paper explains the nature of the book which it is proposed to issue early next year. We hope you will do us the favour of contributing an essay on Natural Selection; it is proposed to invite Prof. Weismann to write the second essay on the subject.

Our aim is to publish articles which will be intelligible to the lay-reader and interesting to the specialist: each article should not exceed 15 or 20 pages and the MS should be in my hands by October 1st.

I need hardly say how highly a contribution from you would be valued and I hope you may be able to give me a favourable reply. Kindly let me know if you with for further information.

I am | Yours very faithfully,

A R Wallace1
