Dear Mr. Slater

Thanks for the list of Spruce's papers &c. Was the "List of the Flora of the Malton District" published? You do not mention it.

What does F.B.S. mean? Is it Fellow of the Botanical Society [?] Was he not LL.D. & when & where was that degree given him? Have you come across any of his letters written to the Journal of Botany or Gardeners Chronicle, when [2] in the Pyrenees, or South America [?] He probably had copies of some of them, but if you have not them at hand it is of no importance now.

Did he not go to the Pyrenees & also to S. America partly for his health, & was it his lungs that were weak at that time[?]

Do you know if he had any pecuniary assistance [3] from Kew or elsewhere to go to S. America[?]

Answers to such of these queries as you can give will be acceptable.

Yours very truly | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
