Dear Mr. Slater
As Spruce wrote to you & to Mr Barnes from America, I think he must also have written to his earliest botanical friend Mr Henry Ibbetson. Can you ascertain from Mr Ibbetson's relatives (or heirs) whether they have any of these letters?
Also, If you know any other early friends of Spruce's you [2] might try & get any letters written from S. America. English letters I do not want.
Do you think he wrote to Mr. James Backhouse? You might ask his son if you ever go to York.
Yours very truly | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
P.S. The Spanish Geography has no plates of Tunguragua [Tungurahua], or Baños, & I think of the [3] special localities where Spruce stayed. A.R.W.
