Broadstone, Wimborne.

Jany 23rd. 1908

Dear Mr. Slater

I am sorry to trouble you again; but will you please give me the date of Spruce's letter to Bruck — the copy of which you lent me & I returned the other day without noting it.

Also, I see in your "Account of the Mosses &c. of N. Yorkshire" — you give several mosses, with Spruce's name as collector — in 1837 1838 and 1839 — and many more in 1841 and 1842 — (besides many more with no dates) Does this mean [2] that these dated species were then noted by Spruce in the distict for the first time, and that he then correctly named them?

Does the Mss. List dated 1837 of the Flora of the Malton District, which Mr Stabler says in his "Obit. Notice" — that you possess, include any Mosses?

Replies to these queries will oblige.

Yours very truly | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]

P.S. I presume it was Ibbotson who gave Spruce his first taste for botany — Do you know if Ibbotson published anything on plants earlier than Spruce?

In the acct. of the Yorkshire Phil. Soc. Herbarium he is said to have published several articles 1<in> the Phytologist, Flora of Yorkshire &c. Can you give me the dates of the earliest of them [?] I want these details for the "Biographical Introduction"— | A.R.W. [4]
