The Northern Newspaper Syndicate

Kendal, England

19th March, 1904

Alfred Russel Wallace, Esq[ui]re

Dear Sir,

Will you kindly say if you can supply us with a short article for general readers ( about 2,000 words ) on some fascinating nature subject which would come under the general title of "Stories from Nature." Sir Robert Ball2 and other gentlemen have already kindly consented to contribute.

If you accept to our request will you kindly suggest a title in order that we may avoid overlapping?

Faithfully yours, | p.p. Northern Newspaper Syndicate | M. T. R. [signature]

P.S. A portion of a lecture, or handbook, or revised for our use, would admirably answer the purpose.

Letter contains a header that states " Editor in Chief: John Watson. — Manager: Ernest E. Taylor. — Bankers: Bank of Liverpool, Ltd." in the upper left corner. Next to this there is an illustration of a women in classical dress holding a torch and a book with the words "Northern Newspaper Syndicate" wrapped around a globe beneath her. In the middle-left hand side of the letter, the words "Entomology BMNH Library" are printed in blue ink. Under where it says " The Northern Newspaper Syndicate," in parentheses, it states "(A National and International Press Agency)". In the upper tight hand corner, the letter states "Telegrams: 'SYNDICATE, KENDAL.'"
Ball, Robert Stawell (1840-1913). Irish Astronomer.
