Dear Mr. Slater

Having now just sent away the final corrected proofs of Spruce's "Notes" — I am anxious to send away the various materials to those to whom they are to go.1

I understand that you wish to offer the 4 bound vols. of Spruce's "Plantae Amazonicae &c." to Kew. Shall I also offer them the rough "Journals" — which are [2] full of botanical notes, besides the few I have selected for use.

Also will you offer them all the letters to Spruce from various Botanists & others — or shall I return these to you?2

The quantity of Meteorological Notes — shall they be offered to the Geographical or the Meteorological Society if they will have them[?] The former I think most likely to use them.3

The list of native Languages &c. Shall they be offered to the4[3] Anthropological Institute,— or to the Geographical. ?

Do you want the Mss. Lists of Genera of Mosses & Hepatics you sent me returned ? They are useless to me.

When these are disposed of I shall send you all the books &c. you lent me.

The only portion of the materials I should like to keep, are Spruce's sketches, especially those which I have had shaded up by a good artist for the purpose of the book.

____________________

The Mss. book of Spruce's "Notes" [4] &c. which he had prepared for the press, was cut up, and rearranged for printer's copy. Do you care to have it as a specimen of Spruce's Mss. ? It is no use to me?

____________________

Lastly — I enclose a P. Card directed to myself. Please write on it Mr. Teasdale's private address; which I asked you for before but which you overlooked.

____________________

I shall ask the Publisher to send Mr. Teasdale and Mr Stabler copies of the book, & I understand you wish to have 3 copies.

Yours very truly | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
