I have never that I am aware of said a word about Mr, Davett to any one, & from what I have read of his speeches & from the high opinion my friend Mr. Houston[?] has of him, all my prepossessions are in his favour. At the same time I do not wish, & will not consent, to identify myself or our Land movement, with that of persons who may have [2] widely divergent views from ours & with which I could not associate myself. My views on the general Irish question have been well expressed by Mr. Boyd Kinnear's letter to the Daily News[?], and your article
