Sir E.O. Gibbes
Secretary for Education—
Dear Sir—
I have just received the copy of the "Manual of the New Zealand Flora" by Mr. T. F. Cheeseman. After a brief examination it seems to me to be a very admirable work, very complete and instructable, and in all respects a model for works of his character. This is no doubt largely due to its being the work of an experienced botanist who has for many years studied the living plants, and not been limited to dried specimens in a herbarium.
I beg to return you[?] my [2] best thanks for presenting me with so excellent and useful a volume
I am, dear Sir, | Yours very faithfully | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
