Dec. 6/'78.
Dear Mr Wallace,
Your letter is very good, and if there were a row going on with Carpenter nothing could be more appropriate. But I think it is best to let sleeping dogs lie, and would rather not take the intiative in reviving the subject.
I had a rather important paper before the Royal Society last night; there was a good discussion, in which Caprenter joined; although he did not propose to bury the hatchet, he was particulaly civil and complimentary, so under the circumstances I should be glad if you letter were witheld for a more convienient oppurtunity.
Believe me,
Very sincerely yours,
William Crookes
