My dear Mr. Slater
I have read at length got from the printer the first proof of the "Biog. Introduction" which I have written for the "Spruce" volume. I send it you you in order that you may be so good as to read it carefully and correct any oliphs of fact, date, or other detail. I have put a ? in Perephial at two places, where [1 word illeg.] information is wanted.
I think if you will put a number 1., 2. &c in [2] blue or red pencil opposite each error or ommission of any kind, or where you think more or less should be [1 word illeg.] — & then write on a seperate paper whatever corrections or remarks you have to make, it will ensure my [1 word illeg.] overlooking anything.
You will see that, by means of Mr Brusser's Mr. Hawburg & Mr. Stabler's ;etters, I have been able to give much new information [3] and I hope the Biography will prove interesting to the general reader as well as to all who know him, either personally or by his botanical work.
I shall be glad to have a proof returned as soon as you coincedentally can, as it will be a real relief to me to have this large job quickly out of hand & though it has so far as the writing & compiling is concerned been enjoyable work. But [4] the worry I have had to get decent maps is incredible. They have been sent to me full of gross blunders & with half of the name wrongly spelt! & I have had to send some back or or 4 times!
Yours very truly
