Dear Mr Marchant,
I feel I must write a little letter to thank you for all the trouble you have taken on our behalf.
I am sure it is all [2] down to your prompt and generous action that my mother has now been awarded a pension. I am extremely relieved as in her failing state of health it would have been and immense wrench [3] to leave this house. Now we can all go on pretty much as we did before thanks to the kindness and energy of very kind friends. I am so glad too that the portrait scheme is to go on, and what pleases me very much is the idea of a statue [4] in the N. H. Museum — I always hoped a companion one to Darwin could be made, and my Father would make such a nice statue; but it’s a tremendous scheme and I shall not count on that part of it.
With very kind regards | Yours sincerely | Violet Wallace [signature]
