Letter (WCP76.76)

[1]

Broadstone, Dorset.

June 20th. 1903

My dear Will1

Directly I got your last (but one) I wrote to my friend Dresser.2 He called on Sir W. Preece3 at once, who told him it was too late. All were already appointed. Also he says they were advertised some time ago in several papers. Dresser asked him to let him know in case any vacancies occurred, so we can do no more now, but make private enquiries, & wait.

[2] My reply to criticisms is to appear in Fortnightly4 for September — & the book probably in October.

I am now finishing Index of new ed. of Wond. Century,5 & then shall have a rest till proofs of book6 come, & as I again corrected all after I got them from you & have made some important additions in last chapter, there will not be much work as I shall send a proof to Mr. Marshall, & only make any more alterations [3] if he finds anything very bad.

I send this to Rugby as you recommend.

Yours [sic] affectionate Pa | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
