My dear Percival Wright

Many thanks for your note and pamphlet &c. It contains some interesting facts, but I want one or two more for a book I am now at work on, in which I discuss the relations & past history of islands rather more fully than I was able to do in my Geog[raphical]. Dist[ribution] of Animals. Will you therefore be so good as to answer me the following questions:

1. Are there any Amphibia in the Seychelles?

2. Any snakes?

3. How many lizard — how many pec[uliar]. sp[ecies]. & of others are Madagascan, African, or Indian species. Names not important.

[2] 4. Lands shells. Did you get any? Where have they been described? or have you any facts about them.

5. I can get all about the flora in Baker’s vol[ume]. just out, — but can you refer me to any book giving an account of the Madagascar flora and its relations, so far as known?

6. Did you notice any tertiary or recent deposits anywhere, indicating that the islands have at any time been more submerged than they are now.

Very short answers to these queries will oblige, and will probably answer my purpose quite as well as if were full of detail.

I suppose you will not have a copy of your "Animal Life" to give away. I am very glad if my books have been useful to you.
