Dear Mrs Hudson

Many thanks for your nice plant of the Paradise Tree you have been so kind as to send me.

It is quite different from what I supposed it might be, but is something like a Queensland small tree I have had from Sir Thomas Hanbury’s garden at La Mortola1 named Pithecol[l]obium [2] [word illeg.] [.] There are however a large number of species of Pithecol[l]obium from Brazil, and some of these may grow as far south as Uruguay. It is a genus near to the "Ing’as"[?] which I dare say you know, and which were very abundant in the Amazon valley. The Pithecol[l]obiums however have the seedpods curved, or twisted round, or even spiral.

I am getting on fairly well, but cannot do so much in the garden and [3] greenhouse as I should like to do.

We shall be glad to see you whenever you can make it convenient to call
