Ernst Harteret Esq.
Dear Sir1
I beg to thank Mr. Rothschild & yourself for sending me the papers on the birds of Baly[sic], Lombok, Tonboro, Sumba, & other islands.
It is very interesting to me to read these notes on places & one of which I visited 40 years ago, while others I was at that time unable to reach.
Sumlou is especially interesting to me, and I cannot help thinking [2] that a longer visit to the forest districts of the island, at the proper season would produce many more novelties both in birds and insects.
I am pleased to find that although to many addition have been made to the birds of both Bali2 & Lombok3 the broad facts of distribution as indicated by myself remain almost as marked as ever.
Believe me | Yours very truly | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
