Dr Ernst Hartert
Dear Sir,
As you have no doubt all the materials at hand I shall be very much obliged if you will give me the following information.
1. The member of species of birds now known from New Guinea including the islands close to it as Waigon, Saliralty & Arm Island, separating the land and the water birds. A rough estimate will do as it is only for the purpose of comparing the ornithological richness of N. Guinea with [2] other large islands or countries.
Should you, without much trouble, be able to give also the numbers for the Papuan Islands, as a whole, say from Mysol to New Britain I should also like to have them, — but those from New Guinea itself shall suffice.
Believe me | yours very truly | Alfred R Wallace [signature]
