My dear Will1
I have intended for some time to rewrite my Will in consequence of the considerable alteration caused by the sale of Nutwood2 and the acquisition of the Old Orchard.3
I now send you draft, for your consideration. The general idea is to do all I can for each according to their needs. Therefore, as Violet4 cannot earn so much as you, & less certainly, also her health not being so good, I leave her my books-royalties which will bring her in I hope £40 to £50 a year for perhaps a dozen years more, & half occupation of this house. All the rest I leave to Ma5 amounting altogether to about £120 a year.
[2] If Violet gets a small school here they will be able to do very well on that,- if not they can take two boarders or let some rooms furnished or let all the house furnished.
All the rest I think you will understand. However, consider it well, and make any suggestions you like. I do not want to show it to Ma as I am sure she will worry herself about it and I cannot stand the worry of discussing details. I will show it to Violet perhaps if you think well. Please return it with your remarks as soon as you [3] can.
As soon as I get this off my mind, I shall begin on the "Autobiography"6 or "Recollections", or whatever it is to be called.
Let me know how your doubtful question of Electrical theory or measurement turned out. I hope you were right.
Also, pray be careful working among live Dynamos &c. It is too awfully risky. Why not positively refuse to do it unless they cut off the Currents?
The Latch is put on the front door & looks very neat.
Your affectionate Pa | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
