My dear Mr. Darwin
I have to thank you for a copy of the little book on Erasmus Darwin, & for the kind manner in which I am spoken of in your note mentioning my share in the work.—1 I have only read a portion of your text, but have done so with great interest.— Your explanation of Miss Seward’s curious treatment of your Ancestor’s memory is a very natural one,— I presume the Doctor was what was called in those days & earlier a very gallant man, & may have roused hopes in the Lady’s bosom the disappointment of which would be painful.—2
Dr Krause occupies the smaller portion of the volume,—3
Believe me | Yours very truly | W. S. Dallas
