My dear Darwin

The enclosed is now being copied & you will be asked to sign it in a day or two.2

We propose confining the signatures to 10 or 12 good names.3

I hope you will think that we have made out a good case. I have boiled down the correspondence so as to enable outsiders to form a quick judgement
