From Albert Günther   14 February 1874

British Museum

Febr. 14th. 1874

My dear Sir

I have had great pleasure in signing Mr Swinhoe’s certificate which I return herewith.1

I am still engaged with the Gallapagos. Tortoises which prove to be much more interesting than I anticipated2

Yours very truly | A Günther

CD had asked Günther to support Robert Swinhoe’s candidacy for fellowship in the Royal Society of London (see letter to Albert Günther, 12 February 1874). Swinhoe was not successful until 1876 (Record of the Royal Society of London). See also letter from Robert Swinhoe, 9 February 1874.
Günther had asked CD about Galápagos tortoises in 1873 (see Correspondence vol. 21, letter to Albert Günther, 12 April [1873]). Günther’s research on tortoises was published in A. C. L. G. Günther 1875 and 1877.
