Down, | Beckenham, Kent.

Feb. 26

Dear Sir

I sent you by post on Feb. 16th a certificate for Mr Swinhoe for the Royal Socy, with a request that you could sign it & return it to me.1 As I have not received it, I am much afraid that it is lost. May I earnestly beg you to inform me by return of post whether you have received it.2

Dear Sir | yours faithfully | Ch. Darwin

See letter to H. B. Tristram, 16 February 1874. Robert Swinhoe had asked CD to propose him as a fellow of the Royal Society of London (see letter from Robert Swinhoe, 9 February 1874). Swinhoe was not elected until 1876 (Record of the Royal Society of London).
CD wrote on the envelope, ‘If from home, please forward immediately’.
