Faraday to Carlo Matteucci   3 May 18531

TRANSLATION

I would be happy to see you in Pisa; but oh dear! I become every day more like a snail, but a very happy snail, you understand, because I have great reasons to be grateful for the many blessings of Providence. Nonetheless, I would like to see you again in Italy, but I cannot hope for it, and taking into account my age, I really ought hardly to desire it.

Date as given in Bianchi (1874), 220. This was the reply to letter 2669a.
